The Department of Anatomy and Physiology was established in 1933 by Professor B.A. Dombrovsky and Associate Professor V.V. Kolesnikov, who were invited from Almaty. Later, the department was headed by Associate Professor G.I. Chepurnykh, Professor B.I. Tsvetkov, and then Professor V.V. Alexandrovsky, who served from 1939 to 1952. From 1952, for 20 years, the department was led by Professor A.F. Khanzhin. Through his efforts, the department became a well-known school of anatomists. Later, the department was headed by Associate Professor V.A. Leleka (1972–1985), Professors E.K. Ibragimov (1985–1991), F.I. Suleymanov (1991–1995), A.Z. Tulebaev (1995–1998, 2003–2008), K.S. Arbaev (1998–2002), A.Sh. Irgashev (2002–2003), and Associate Professor Y.T. Begaliev (2008–2022). Since 2022, the department has been headed by PhD, Acting Associate Professor T.T. Eshimbekov.
From 2003 to 2008, the department was headed by Professor, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences A.Z. Tulebaev. He proposed a scientific direction in the field of morphometry, functional morphology, ontogenesis, and physiology of animals and birds. Under his scientific supervision, the morphofunctional characteristics of the postnatal ontogenesis of the Kyrgyz breed of chickens were studied and developed. The results of these studies were summarized in PhD dissertations by Y.T. Begaliev, M.A. Kichinebatyrova, T.K. Yrysaliev, and A.K. Madumarov. Since 1972, courses in the anatomy of domestic animals have been taught by Associate Professors V.A. Leleka, V.V. Skrynnikov, M.A. Zhantemirov, Assistant A.A. Lopukhov, as well as Professors A.Z. Tulebaev, M.B. Aitmatov, R.S. Salykhov, T.S. Kubatbekov, and Associate Professors E.O. Oganov, T.A. Abdramanov, S.Zh. Tulegenov, S.Sh. Tursunaliev, Senior Lecturers and Assistants A.A. Zhumagulov, B.M. Zhantemirova, Zh. Uraliev, and others.
Over the years, the department has employed Professors M.B. Aitmatov, T. Kubatbekov, Associate Professors U.Z. Murzakulov, A.F. Dokukhin, A.A. Abdurakhmanov, K.B. Myrzaliev, E.O. Oganov, T.M. Abdramanov, E.K. Asankulova, S.Sh. Tursunaliev, A.K. Madumarov, Assistants V.P. Telegin, K. Uraliev, B. Zhantemirova, D.O. Bektemirova, A.B. Imashova, M.B. Aitmatov, A.Z. Tulebaev, and others.
The founder of the Department of Physiology of Farm Animals was Professor A.A. Morozov (1936–1980).
At different times, the discipline was taught by Associate Professor U.Z. Murzakulov (PhD in Veterinary Sciences), Associate Professors A.F. Dokukhin, A.A. Abdurakhmanov, K.B. Myrzaliev, E.K. Asankulov, Assistant V.P. Telegin, Senior Lecturer S.N. Zaporozhets, Acting Professor A.Sh. Irgashev, Professor E.E. Dyakonov, Associate Professor N.S. Aldayarov, and Senior Lecturer A.K. Madumarov.
A significant contribution to the training of veterinary and zootechnical specialists was made by senior laboratory assistants: A.A. Vorogushina, G.D. Mokina, L.V. Ovchinnikova, E.I. Israilov, Zh. Koybagarov, G.A. Zhumanalieva, S. Sulaimanova, Sh. Dyykanova, G. Sydygalieva, M.A. Kichinebatyrova, Ch.A. Bazarlieva, G.Zh. Egemberdieva, and others.
Currently, the department staff includes Acting Professor Y.T. Begaliev, Acting Associate Professors S. Anarbek uulu (PhD in Veterinary Sciences) and A.K. Madumarov (PhD in Biological Sciences), Senior Lecturers A.O. Turdubaeva, B.T. Nadyrbekov, and Assistants Y.B. Toktonaliev and Zh.B. Mambetova.
The department continues research in morphometry, functional morphology, ontogenesis, and animal and bird physiology.
Original coordinate-metric research methods proposed by Professor F.F. Khanzhin were applied not only in anatomy but also contributed to the expansion of organ topography and surgical sciences. Scholars such as Associate Professors and PhDs in Veterinary Sciences V.B. Skrynnikov, Kh.Yu. Djailov, and N.I. Pirogov wrote about its applications. This method became one of the most original scientific approaches. Professor F.I. Suleymanov conducted research on the ontogenesis of domestic ducks and the effects of growth biostimulators, studying their morphofunctional, biochemical, and interspecies comparative characteristics, which led to his doctoral dissertation. Professor A.Z. Tulebaev achieved comprehensive studies of the morphofunctional features of the postnatal ontogenesis of Kyrgyz chickens. These results were defended in dissertations by Y.T. Begaliev, M.A. Kichinebatyrova, T.K. Yrysaliev, and A.K. Madumarov. A.Z. Tulоbaev published over 130 scientific and educational works, including one monograph, two textbooks, two publications, ten methodological guides, and two inventions. Under the supervision of Professor R.S. Salykhov, applicant T.T. Eshimbekov defended his PhD dissertation on “Pharmacotoxicological Characteristics of Alivek.” Graduate student S. Anarbek uulu, under Professor K.S. Arbaev, defended his dissertation on “Topographic Anatomy of the Brain and Maxillary Region of the Kyrgyz Taigan Dog.”
Current research includes:
— Applicant B.T. Nadyrbekov’s study on “Morphofunctional State of Five Lymphoid Organs and Tissues in the Age Dynamics of Tien Shan Fine-Fleeced Sheep,” supervised by Professor K.S. Arbaev;
— Applicant A.O. Turdubaeva’s study on “Effect of Saline Water of Lake Issyk-Kul on Hematological Parameters of Sheep,” supervised by Professor A.Z. Tulоbaev.
Currently, the department teaches the following disciplines: “Anatomy of Domestic Animals,” “Physiology and Ethology of Farm Animals,” “Clinical Physiology and Clinical Anatomy,” “Latin and Biology,” “Fundamentals of Veterinary Sanitation,” “Veterinary Cardiology and Hematology,” and “Veterinary Orthopedics and Ophthalmology.”
Faculty responsible for these courses include: Acting Professor Y.T. Begaliev, Acting Associate Professors S. Anarbek uulu and A.K. Madumarov, Senior Lecturers A.O. Turdubaeva and B.T. Nadyrbekov, and Assistants Y.B. Toktonaliev and Zh.B. Mambetova.
The department actively cooperates with higher educational institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic, such as Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University and Jalal-Abad State University named after B. Osmonov, as well as with universities of CIS countries: Moscow Veterinary Academy named after K.I. Skryabin, Veterinary Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev, Velikiye Luki University, Kazakh National Agrarian University, Samarkand State University of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry and Biotechnology, and Yakut Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture named after M.G.
